The Myth of God’s Wrath
If we accept the idea of us being co-creators with God, then we must re-think the idea of divine punishment. If we agree that we are co-creators with God in establishing heaven on Earth, then we must take responsibility for creating hell on Earth too.
I don’t believe in a God who punishes. The fact that God punishes nobody might come as a surprisingly unbelievable truth for many.
I want you to imagine a divine system where your past sins are fully forgotten, and your future transgressions are retroactively forgiven!
I promise you that as soon as you start changing your mind about a punishing God to an always and all ways loving God, your life will begin to change.
Mystic poet Chelan Harkin invites us to repent about thinking of God as a punisher. Of all the false names we have for God, she wants us to “start by throwing out Judge.” She does not want us to hide our heart and “tiptoe around the myth of God’s wrath.”
If you think
the Eccentric God who made the Octopus
is gonna judge you for your sins,
I’m afraid you’ve missed the mark.
If you think this wild God
that spins galaxies as a pastime
cares to get fussy about your mistakes…
you might need to repent.
She encourages us to
“evict God from His snooty sky nest,”
“disarm God of all His weapons,”
“take away His hardest sticks of judgment and conditionality,”
“relieve the stern, perfectionist, hard-ass God from His duties,” and
“re-home Him in the cozy burrow of your chest.”
I know the Bible, especially the Old Testament, is replete with stories of God punishing a lot of people by smiting them, killing them and mercilessly and totally annihilating villages and tribes.
But always remember: that was their understanding of God!! It is 2000+ years old view and views need to be updated!
You need to have your own understanding of God and God would be very happy if you experience Him/Her/It as loving rather than punishing!
